A Message From the President

Greetings from the Grand Canyon Chapter of NIGP!

Established in 2007, the Grand Canyon Chapter has served a diverse group of purchasing professionals, which includes directors, managers, officials, buyers, agents and others related to governmental procurement throughout northern and the most western parts of Arizona. The backgrounds, interests, locations and missions of our individual agencies vary from the Grand Canyon , mountain pine trees, buttes and mesas to the desert lake playgrounds. The common theme that binds us amongst our differences is our mission to promote public procurement through assistance, education and personal development to further the knowledge of our members.

We continually strive for ways of growing our life experiences and membership by encouraging educational institutions, governmental and other public agencies and associated staff members to share their unique experiences and thoughts by joining our membership. Through our networking, participation, problem solving and leadership; we further the goals of public procurement in Arizona and beyond. In part, we accomplish this by our fair and unbiased treatment of contractors, members, vendors and the general public we serve.

During these economic down times and subsequent challenges; we support one another by devoting our time, strengths and foresight to enhance our understanding and practical use of public procurement laws, processes, ordinances and statutes. This support not only enriches our lives, but others as well in our endeavor. I would like to express my gratitude to all of our Chapter members for their commitment, dedication and energy, because without you this Chapter couldn't exist and thrive. A special thank you goes to Scott Richardson , Travis Lingenfelter and Denise Finn our past Presidents, for all their leadership efforts and continued support, which have allowed this Chapter and its members to flourish.

Chapter meetings are held every other month at varying locations across our state. We encourage participation through personal attendance or telephonically in order to span the long distances and recent budget cuts we have experienced during these past few years.

Some objectives we promote through our membership are:

•  Advancement of our procurement profession

•  Application of ethical standards by use of fair and impartial methods, practices and standards

•  Gather and distribute useful information for its members

•  Exchange experiences and ideas

•  Host and support useful educational events and certification of our members

•  Uphold the objectives and purpose of the NIGP and our Chapter

•  Provide the highest value for every tax dollar spent

You too can be part of this unique experience and professional development by completing a membership application today, please follow the link provided on our website.

Thank you for your time and hope to see you soon!

Lyle A. Block, CPPB
